OnniBus.com launches a new online ticket sales system
24 / 05 / 2018
Founded in 2014, OnniBus.com is the leading Finnish express coach operator owned by Souter Investments. Following its digital sales development strategy, Onnibus required a new online ticket sales system. The solution delivered by Unity Group was launched in April 2018.
OnniBus.com offers regular inter-city express bus service in Finland. Their philosophy is to deliver excellent customer service at a reasonable price. Operating a fleet of modern coaches equipped with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi, OnniBus aims to present an alternative to air, train or car travel. With fares starting at €2, OnniBus has actively encouraged their clients to book online early to secure the lowest prices. Unfortunately, previous ticket sales system was no longer keeping up with the growing needs of the company. Due to technical debt, many of its key functionalities and features of the solution were severely hampered.
And that’s when agile software developers from Unity Group stepped in.
OnniBus ticket sales system in a nutshell
This project consisted of two key elements.
Firstly, it involved design and implementation of a new user-friendly website. An important requirement was to make it open to new business initiatives that could be easily added to the Client’s product and service portfolio. An entirely refreshed layout of the website will be unveiled once all tests are concluded.
Secondly, our team performed a takeover of the ticket sales system maintained by an external supplier for the past few years. Unity Group has since then substantially refactored the original code and keeps adding necessary improvements as they arise.
Upon introducing key modifications, the new system was then migrated to Azure Cloud in order to boost its performance and increase high traffic allowance. As a result, SLA parameters of system reliability were also significantly improved.
Delivering world-class quality
OnniBus project is now approaching maintenance phase. Run in agile methodology, it was developed by an international team comprising Finnish, British, and Polish staff. Thanks to JIRA software, all communication between business owner, developers and testers was direct and transparent.
– From our perspective, it’s been a truly interesting assignment. It let us put our existing knowledge to use in a complex organisational landscape of an international enterprise. But what matters most to us is to see our client’s satisfaction with the work they had entrusted us with – commented Grzegorz Rudno-Rudziński, Managing Partner at Unity Group.
